He held the little box behind his back, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. He’d been waiting for weeks to spring this surprise on her. He knew she was expecting his proposal; she’d dropped hints and he’d dutifully lingered outside jewellers’ shops, pretending to look at everything but the engagement rings. As soon as he’d seen it, he’d handed over the money and carefully tied it with a festive red ribbon. He couldn’t wait to see the look on her face when she opened the box to find the photograph of her in flagrante with her boss.
